From May through October, 4-year-old Wild Perfection was a full and active cog in the Finger Lakes claiming machine. But then, nothing, a 5-week silence that given the who (cheap horse, bottom-feeder connections), what (running in races that pay first…
Saturday night at Penn National, 7-year-old Strapping Groom (below) was reported as “broke down after the wire” and vanned off. Initially, there were conflicting reports on his status, but because this was a successful horse (multiple GS winner) breaking in…
Originally reported as a mere “van-off” Friday at Aqueduct, 9-year-old Cherokee Artist is in fact dead from a broken leg. For trainer/owner David Jacobson, this makes six dead horses in NY since August of last year. For NY 2014, 113…
As I often remind, my casualty/kill lists are incomplete – not through lack of effort, but because Racing ensures that some (many) fall through the cracks, disappear. Witness 5-year-old Threetimes a Saint’s line from yesterday’s 2nd at Finger Lakes: “THREETIMES…
5-year-old Igotitdad was reported as vanned off after finishing “evenly” in a race at Gulfstream West on November 8th. Coupled with a middle-of-the-pack result, this didn’t seem overly ominous. And that’s where it would have stayed if not for a…
3-year-old Infant Gold is dead after breaking down in the 9th yesterday at Parx. He was first raced in February (when he was two). Follows are his trainer/owner teams and transaction history: James Cullen/Jay Young, 2 races, sold to Lewis…
I have confirmed that 4-year-old Madelynsheabadgirl was euthanized after breaking down at the wire of last night’s 3rd at Charles Town. Curiously, the Lori Bourne-trained (and owned) gelding had only seen the track one other time – way back in…
Surviving Kandy, an unraced 2-year-old colt, fractured a shoulder while training at Golden Gate Sunday and was subsequently euthanized. Trainer, Vod Farris. Just five days prior at that same track, 3-year-old Mr. Franco (two career starts: last, second-to-last) got loose…

A week ago yesterday (a delay because the Gaming Commission had it listed wrong), 3-year-old Pete broke down during morning practice at Finger Lakes and was euthanized. In the last five weeks of his young life, Pete was raced four…
3-year-old Santa Baby is dead after breaking down in the 9th Sunday at Yonkers. The Jordan Hope-trained filly was being raced for a piece of a $16,000 racino-jacked purse. She is the 8th NY Standardbred killed in action this year,…
Through a reliable source, I have confirmed that the two horses listed as broke down Friday at Woodbine are dead. 3-year-old Tomtom Drum, coming off a 10th-place finish two weeks prior, went down in the 2nd. He was trained by…
