In the Equibase notes for the 4th race at Golden Gate November 19, 3-year-old Gem of a Gal was a “pulled up, vanned off.” In truth, the young filly never made it onto the ambulance alive. The CHRB reports that…
Last night’s 6th at Delta (Equibase): “CHRISTY’S VOW chased the early pace from the outside, stopped, fell and was euthanized.” That’s it. Gone. Prior to dying, the 4-year-old filly had been raced 15 other times; most recently, October 16 at…
Under the whip for the very first time, 2-year-old colt Film Juror collapsed in the stretch (of 7th) yesterday at Del Mar – dead, says the Daily Racing Form’s Jay Privman, “most likely of a cardiac episode” (after, that is,…
According to the chart, 3-year-old Chide “went wrong” in the 11th race Thursday at Churchill and was subsequently “vanned off.” But owing to the fact that this was a $200,000 Grade 2, we now know that “went wrong” means dead.…
The NYS Gaming Commission reports that 5-year-old R Free Roll is dead after breaking down during morning “practice” at Belmont yesterday. Along with the disclosure, of course, comes the familiar (and utterly meaningless) “investigation to follow.” R Free Roll was…
From the most recent Stewards Minutes at Golden Gate: “Jockey Irving Orozco who rode the horse Silent Bounty in the sixth race at Golden Gate Fields on November 8, 2015, is hereby fined $300 for striking his mount on the…
The California Horse Racing Board reports that 2-year-old The Heisman Kid “broke down” in Los Alamitos’ 3rd race November 15. “Immediately after the break,” say the stewards minutes, The Heisman Kid “appeared to break his back.” This is horseracing.
From Friday’s Paulick Report: “A racemare walking back to her barn after schooling in the paddock Thursday night at Delta Downs got loose and drowned in a retention pond.” That mare was 7-year-old Cajun Chu Chu. She was last raced…
For the second straight night a horse was killed while “competing” at Delta Downs in Louisiana. 4-year-old Richter Con Jar was, according to Equibase, “pulled up soon after the start [of the 3rd] in distress and was euthanized.” It was…
3-year-old Beauregard Sopo is dead – the victim of a presumptive breakdown last night at Delta (race 8). I say presumptive because this is all we got from the (Equibase) chart: “BEAUREGARD SOPO dueled from between foes early, clipped heels…
From the most recent Del Mar Stewards Minutes: “RACE DELAY As the field for the fourth race [Nov 12] was entering the track, a pony accompanying one of the entrants, stumbled and fell under the inside rail. In an effort…
3-year-old Empty Backfield is dead – “humanely euthanized,” says Equibase – after breaking down in the 9th yesterday at Parx. Yet another sentient being created, exploited, and destroyed – for $2 bets. Please help end the madness.
