Two horses were killed in the same race last night at Penn National. In the 8th, a $4,000 claiming, 5-year-old Player to Be Named and 4-year-old Thou Art Mary both “broke down” and were “humanely euthanized.” It is, of course,…
It was yet another afternoon of good, clean family entertainment at Parx yesterday (from the Equibase charts): In the 6th, Magic Soul “…weakened…returned bleeding…” In the 8th, San Gregoria “was pulled up in apparent distress just before the wire.” In…
From Parx yesterday afternoon (Equibase charts): In the 1st, Seeking the Palace, who was “For Sale” prior to the race, finished last – 75+ lengths back. But Parx being a racino track, his connections still won some cash. In the…
In the 1st Thursday at Aqueduct, 2-year-old Zenstone finished 2nd – and then was “vanned off.” Turns out, the filly had broken a leg and was subsequently (the next day) euthanized. Dead at the equivalent age of a grade-schooler. In…
Since recording 20 kills in its first 3 months (of current meet), Aqueduct’s been relatively quiet recently. But you knew it was just a matter of time… Yesterday, two more, and in back-to-back races no less: In the 3rd, 4-year-old…
9-year-old Italian Rules’ 40th time under the whip on January 9th at Aqueduct was also his last as the Gaming Commission announced today that he was euthanized for a “torn suspensory.” He is the second horse to die in that…

3-year-old Miss Macarena is dead after breaking a leg in Thursday’s 1st at Aqueduct. But for NY’s singular database, the filly’s death likely would have passed unnoticed – Equibase chart: “MISS MACARENA…took bad steps soon after departing the backstretch, was…
In yesterday’s 2nd at Aqueduct, 4-year-old You Take the Cake finished 3rd, garnering $2,100 for her connections. The chart, however, noted that the Joseph Lostritto-trained mare “fell heavily after the finish.” Turns out, she broke her neck and was euthanized.…
Dead horses numbers 15 and 16 have been recorded at Aqueduct’s Fall/Winter Meet: 2-year-old filly Channel of Love – last raced on New Year’s Eve (finished last) – broke a leg while galloping in morning practice yesterday and was euthanized.…
Shewreckstheplace, making her 36th maiden start (all but 4, claiming), broke down and was euthanized Sunday at Aqueduct (5th race). She was a few weeks shy of her 6th birthday – or about the end of an equine’s puberty. Trainer,…
4-year-old Celebrate We Will is dead after breaking down in the 1st yesterday at Aqueduct. Replay here (Race Replays, Friday, race 1). The Bruce Levine-trained horse was being raced for the third time; in his first race back in September,…
