The following racehorses were killed at NYS tracks in 2021. While reading, please bear in mind that this is surely but a partial reckoning, as the Gaming Commission typically only discloses deaths occurring on-site (or occasionally at equine hospitals) and those within 72 hours of injury. And, of course, nothing from the state’s private training facilities. In short, the carnage is worse than what you see below, and below are 107 dead horses – the most, by the way, since 2017. So much for “reform.”

On another note, New York is, of course, a subsidy state. We are part of a broad coalition attempting to change that. I will have more information on how best to support this effort in the very near future.
