2-year-old Tornado City snapped his leg while “breezing” at Belmont Monday morning and was euthanized on-track. Pity his poor connections – trainer Jason Servis among them – for they had yet to make a dime off their colt – at…
The California Horse Racing Board has confirmed that 5-year-old Highly Rated – who was originally reported as “went wrong, pulled up, vanned off” at Golden Gate on January 18th (7th race) – was in fact euthanized for “multiple open fractures”…
From the January Cal Expo (harness racing) Stewards’ Minutes: “Driver Mark Eaton was fined for violation of the ‘House Whipping Rule’ – ‘ANY BLATANT OR EXAGGERATED MOVEMENTS OF THE WHIPPING ARM WHICH WILL RESULT FROM RAISING THE ELBOW ABOVE THE…
The following horses were casualties on American tracks last week. This list, however, includes only raceday victims, for while I’d prefer a more complete reckoning, the training carnage, with but two exceptions (NY, Cal), is almost entirely covered up. Reported…
9-year-old Italian Rules’ 40th time under the whip on January 9th at Aqueduct was also his last as the Gaming Commission announced today that he was euthanized for a “torn suspensory.” He is the second horse to die in that…

I have confirmed that 2-year-old Warrior Forever was euthanized after being vanned off at Charles Town last night (4th race). His trainer from start (August) to bitter end was Jeff Runco. This is horseracing.
I’ve recently begun filing FOIL/Right-to-Know requests with various state racing commissions in an effort to secure the names of the 2014 deceased (above and beyond the ones we already know about). As expected, results have been mixed. Two states –…
