Another 2-Year-Old Killed at Keeneland; That’s 3 Dead Horses in 7 Days

For the second day in a row, and third time in a little over a week, a horse was killed racing at Keeneland. In the 2nd yesterday, Sing for Mo Money broke down and was “vanned off.” Then, in what was likely a desperate attempt to avoid more bad PR, Sing was sent to a local hospital where he was eventually euthanized. Like Autism Honor G Wednesday, Sing was two, and this was his debut. (The other victim, High Go, was just three.) The complicit: Parker Farms, FriendStable, John Ennis, Alex Achard.

So, that’s three kills (that we know about) in seven racedays at one of America’s most hallowed tracks. If they can’t protect horses at Keeneland (or Churchill, or Saratoga, or Santa Anita, etc.), they can’t protect horses – period.

Also, the NYS Gaming Commission reports that Crown Dial was killed training at Belmont Saturday. He, too, was two years old. Trainer, David Duggan.

  1. For those that haven’t been on the inside, there is a show on PBS called Backstretch which is a sugar coated version of the things that really happen.
No mention of the vets and high profile trainers that dope horses or racehorses that break legs every day in America.
Even in this version notice how small the stalls are and how unsettled the young horses are.
You will see weaving, pawing, foaming at the mouth, bleeding from the mouth, lip shanks, dispair and workers that genuinely feel sorry for their plight.

  2. I read numerous comments that Sing’s breakdown looked awful. So they put him through a bumpy trailer ride in hopes to make him a pasture puff needing a home to care for him the rest of his life, and in hopes of keeping him comfortable. Agree that it was a PR stunt. Their numbers already look crappy.
Sing had also just been run through the recent March OBS sale. Literally.

  3. I just briefly read part of a petition from “Greater Good” regarding the
unregulated “bush track” racing in the state of Georgia (USA).
In the petition, they mention all of the things inherent to the abuse of the horses. In this petition against unregulated bush track racing, they imply that regulated horse racing is a dignified and honorable sport; as if they don’t drug horses and use whips, spurs, electroshock devices and push horses beyond their physical limits in REGULATED horse racing.
As we know from the daily postings on this blog, whoever thinks that horse racing is a dignified sport when it’s regulated are highly and disturbingly mistaken!
Obviously, Keeneland is a representative picture of how regulated racing is not very different from unregulated bush track racing. The inherent cruelty and mistreatment of horses should not be overlooked in regulated racing, but unfortunately it is overlooked. The die-hard horse killers of regulated horseracing are and will continue to perpetuate the misconception that the horses are “treated well”.

  4. Keeneland only has races in April and October so right now, the statistics don’t look very admirable. As a matter of fact, it’s down right pathetic.

  5. I see parallels regarding Stupid Unnecessary Killings between horseracing and an autocratic Dipshit doing Illegal totally un necessary wars. BOTH are an evil, totally unnecessary loss of life! STOP 🛑 the Killing Machines …ie horseracing and wars. Just think what the trillions of money being WASTED could be used for instead.
