11 Kills at Prairie Thus Far

Through a FOIA request to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Prairie Meadows thus far this year.

Two Minute Drill, May 17, racing – “[multiple] fractures”

Present Time, May 17, racing (same race as above) – “[multiple] fractures”

Power Slam, May 18, racing – “[multiple] fractures”

Bee Gone, May 19, training – “fractured shoulder” (being prepped for first race)

Keagans Gem, May 30, training – “fractured sesamoid” (being prepped for first race)

Sole Survivor, Jun 5, training – “sudden death” (five years old)

Tringale, Jun 12, stall – “pneumonia” (nine years old, had been raced 51 times)

Impressor, Jun 29, racing – “[multiple] fractures”

Rita’s Revenge, Jun 30, racing – “flipped” (see this post)

Kiss My White Socks, Jun 30, training – “flipped”

Talkalots Final Wish, Jul 7, racing – “sudden death” (two years old)

  1. For entertainment that is organized destruction of “property” these people could switch out their horses and use actual cars.
    They could attract large crowds with a Demolition Derby every week and car races in the dirt. Motorcycle races and monster trucks are also of interest to a lot of people.
    Event organizers use earth-moving equipment to set up the various courses for the different types of motorized vehicles. This could be done in Iowa and stop the cruelty to the horses.

    Stop treating horses like “Alpo-on-the-Hoof” and do something that doesn’t involve Animal Cruelty.
