The NYS Gaming Commission has just disclosed this for Perfect Queen in the 10th race at Saratoga Harness Jul 21: “Perfect Queen did suffer a front leg injury that resulted in the horse being vanned off by ambulance [and euthanized].” She was seven years old. The complicit: trainer Tiffany Barrett, driver Jacob Cutting.
Staying with harness, among the many whipping violations posted Friday, these:
Marshall-Putnam Fair, Jul 12: “Driver/trainer Jerome Daniels was observed excessively urging his horse, [3-year-old] Tvs Tia Wind, following the warm-up for the 10th race.” Again, “excessively urging [whipping] following the warm-up,” or before the race. Daniels, who has appeared here before, was fined $500.
Scioto, Jul 25: “Marvin Luna was the driver of [3-year-old] Myboypank, [who] was reported by the State Vet to have welts on him while in the test barn. Mr. Luna is fined $750 [but] the penalty will be reduced to $500 if not appealed.” They added: “Mitigating circumstances were considered in this penalty.” “Mitigating circumstances” for leaving welts? This scumbag, by the way, is a serial welter – here, here, here, here.
Some context: In the same weekly rulings, under “Major Penalties,” one person was fined $500 for using “offensive/profane language” at The Red Mile, and another was fined $500 for being “rude and disrespectful toward commission employees” at Harrah’s. (At Red Mile, they added: “Actions of this nature will not be tolerated and any further occurrences…will result in escalated penalties.”) In other words, the exact same fine was meted out for “offensive/profane language” and being “rude and disrespectful” as for leaving welts and “excessively [whipping]” pre-race. Only in horseracing.
As far as a horse’s life being wasted, some people have this incredibly repulsive belief that a horse that is not slaughtered for meat is going to waste. That’s what kind of evil there is in this world.
I think there are a lot of people who do want a horse. They just can’t afford the expense that goes with ownership. It is astronomically expensive for real estate and all the maintenance that horses need to keep them healthy. With more housing developments in the last several decades, range land and farm land is not as readily available for purchase or rent as it was over 40 years ago. Urban development and zoning has eliminated a lot of places where people had horses in the 1960s and 1970s in Washington and Idaho.
Slaughter has always been the way to squeeze a few hundred dollars out of some lame horses or unwanted for whatever reason. There is a livestock auction somewhere in the USA just about every day of the week. There are those people who say shipping certain types and classes of horses to slaughter keeps the monetary value up on horses with more training as in riding, not necessarily racing. That creeps me out to hear a horse dealer say that but that is what he (O’Dwyer) said in one of his videos.
Here’s the FUNDAMENTAL reason horseracing is EVIL,and ill conceived from the word “Go”. These horses that are bred have one,two yrs at most of competing….they NEVER F’n thought about WTAF do we do with all these animals after they are exploited and crippled. The math NEVER made sense ….the majority of people not only don’t want to own a horse…they don’t have the means.
Well, Nancy, all I can say is we have the Horseracing Integrity & Safety Authority (HISA) now, as if that means something.
Smoke and mirrors for the gullible and the people who straight up lie and have no qualms about committing acts of cruelty and evil especially for millions and billions of dollars; such as the racing industry is.
I was on my computer and ironically an entry from HRW came up on Nov 21,2019 and it was concerning the Oct 27 breakdown of Go for Wand. There were 21 comments including me( this is how long I’ve been doing this). The same day at Belmont Mr. Nickerson and Shaker Knit died in the same race earlier than Go for Wand. The race was shown on nationwide tv coming down to the finish between beautiful Go for Wand and Bayokoa. GFW had a horrible fall and the jockey Romero hurt. The outrider holding her down said don’t worry girl it’ll be over soon after her foot was falling off and whatever else was ruined. Everyone was so sad and making lamenting comments. My point..why hasn’t this changed in these years? Why don’t humans see this atrocity that continues as a grave waste of life?
The horses versus the commission employees is equivalent to the slaves versus the slave traders and slave masters. Excessive abuse of the horses is basically acceptable as long as you are willing to pay a fine which is basically adding money to the control of the slave traders/masters.
This is a horribly corrupt system that relies on inflicting pain and suffering on horses for money. All of these depraved people should be charged with the crimes they have committed and stop letting the foxes feast on the hens.
