Video of the “Four-Horse Spill” at Saratoga

Below is video (not from NYRA, by the way, as the cowards there scrubbed it) of what the TDN called a “four-horse spill” at Saratoga Friday. Three of the four – names here – are supposedly okay, but I Love Giraffes, says trainer Chad Summers, broke her hip and may not race again. Summers (in the TDN): “It is just unfortunate. It looked like she was going to be a winner. It’s a shame that opening day had to be marred by an incident. Thankfully, nobody died. It’s a tough industry.” “Tough” is one way of putting it. Here’s another.

The “incident” that “marred” Opening Day…

  1. “Thankfully, nobody died” sets an appallingly low bar. A horse suffered a broken hip, and three others were caught in a violent chain-reaction crash because they were pushed to race for human entertainment and profit. Calling it ‘just unfortunate’ ignores the predictable risks built into this industry. The real shame isn’t that opening day was marred. It’s that these disasters are treated as business as usual.

  2. Paco Lopez was the jockey for I LOVE GIRAFFES. As the rider, he is responsible for keeping the horse he is riding from getting close enough to clip heels with any other horse in the race.
Paco Lopez is one of the most abusive jockeys in this business with multiple whipping violations on his record.

  3. Absolutely Wanda! No one should be allowed to make money off of SICKENING animal abuse!!!!! It’s deplorable.

  4. Bonnie, they need to be formally charged with all of the various crimes that they committed in their “acts of cruelty” to horses; and then they need to be put in jail!
They could be put to work in the prison kitchen washing dishes and stuff like that and other jobs for inmates under supervision. They could spend 23 hours a day confined to a small prison cell and then let out for one hour to work their asses off every day.

  5. Thank God whoever got that video to you. Horseracing is SICK EVIL shit. The people involved in this gambling racket need to get a real job.
