A couple weeks back, I reported the death of Blues City at Finger Lakes from “unresolved colic.” Now, another one of those at that same track: One Seventy, yesterday. In contrast to Blues – seven years old, 56 races – OS was just three and had yet to be raced. As I wrote then, here’s a reminder to those racing defenders who might take umbrage with us reporting this as an industry casualty: Racehorses are at a higher risk for colic (and laminitis, and pleuropneumonia) than the general horse population. Not that that should matter, though. All kills in horseracing are by horseracing. Full stop.

It is unforgivable that the children of acclaimed breeders, trainers, owners, jockeys, who were successful in horse racing in the years of Bold Ruler, Native Dancer, Swaps, Gallant Man, Kelso, Carry Back, et al, lack anguish of conscience concerning the death toll of 10,769 elegant race horses. The progeny inherited impressive estates yet not one will admit that horse racing has become the sin sanctuary of drug dealers, executioner trainers, mobsters of the international cartels that wield massive power over the world fiscally and politically.
As for the chaplains who are supposed to be representing God on the backstretch not one of them rides in the ambulances in the event a horse and rider goes down! Not one of them….in fact, they are quite friendly with Bob Baffert who out Scrooged Scrooge by giving them $50,000 in blood money! Donations are expected to be at least 10 percent of earnings and since the most infamous horse killer in history earns 1 million per annum per equine and has a total of 200 head under his control — he stiffed the charity by giving them the equivalent of 25 cents….the correct amount should have been 20 million. Moreover, they are morally responsible for protecting and defending God’s creatures from harm and injury. Witnessing the deaths of these horses without protesting their abuses is an affront to God and to all people who truly love all species of life.
The Jockey Club stands to gain financially from registration fees collected on every Thoroughbred foal that is registered with this registry. They are like any other breed registry in horses (as well as dogs). They have a profit motive which puts them in a position of being a party and a part to the abuse and neglect of horses. It’s despicable.
