Horse Raced in 98-Degree Weather Collapsed of Heatstroke, Died

Through a FOIA request to the Montana Board of Racing, I have confirmed the following kills there last year. Note: Montana had only 12 days of live racing in 2023.

A Vision to Dash, May 6, Miles City R
“Fell behind the gate, fractured shoulder, hauled home and euthanized.” A Vision was but two years old, and this was to be his very first race.

Westa Waverly, Jul 23, Great Falls R
“Collapsed, heatstroke – deceased on track.” The temperature that day, says the Board, was 98 degrees. 98 degrees. Heatstroke, at the age of five. Dead.

Killing horses in myriad ways – this is horseracing.

  1. “Fractured shoulder, HAULED home” – how disgusting. I don’t even want to imagine what it looked like as they forced that poor horse into and out of the trailer, not to mention how he had to keep his balance on a broken shoulder for the ride.
And heatstroke, cause these parasites couldn’t be any more ignorant or callous. Thankfully, these animal abusers will have plenty of time to experience the heat where they’re going.

  2. Just because it’s Montana doesn’t make it okay for anyone to sadistically manhandle horses to the point of suffering inflicted on these two horses. God knows what other horses suffered because of the sadists in Montana.
