31 Kills in PA, Including 20 at Parx

Through a FOIA request to the PA Dept. of Agriculture, I have confirmed the following kills at that state’s tracks thus far this year. As always, necropsies were denied, so detail is lacking. (I have supplemented with chart notes where applicable.)

Captain Delightful, Jan 4, Meadows S – “illness, [found dead]”
A Little Bit, Jan 4, Parx R – “injured, vanned off, euthanized” (two years old, first race)
Hard Timer, Jan 10, Parx S – “sudden death” (four years old)
Time to Two Step, Jan 12, Parx T – “injured, euthanized”
Orbert, Jan 16, Parx T – “sudden death” (six years old)
Pop Pop Susi, Jan 20, Penn R – “went bad, vanned off, euthanized”
Warrior’s Crown, Jan 25, Parx T – “injured, euthanized” (two years old)
Sick Pack Sara, Feb 1, Penn T – “injured, euthanized”
Crafty Jack, Feb 21, Parx R – “suffered catastrophic injury…euthanized”
Sir Rex, Mar 10, Penn R – “went bad, fell, vanned off, euthanized”
Brentford, Mar 13, Penn S – illness, [found dead]” (two years old)
Boat Over the Hill, Mar 17, Parx S – “unknown, [found dead]”
Trophy Chaser, Mar 20, Parx R – “injured leg during warm-up, vanned off, euthanized”

  1. Patrick, Horse Racing Nation reporting the mutiny at Finger Lakes by the jockeys. After Oscar Gomes fell, the jockeys refused to ride afterwards. It was mentioned Oscar’s injuries(more than broken ankle as reported). And including the horse killed the day before on the track.It is now being said the jockeys are treated with disrespect. Gee they just noticed this??

    • The gruesome details of injuries specific to horse racing are there even though we don’t see the horses’ injuries or read the details of each horse brutally injured and killed by racing.

  2. I pasted this list and copied to my FB page. Periodically, I like people to eyeball the long list of horses’ names with the killing details next to them. It hits home a bit, I hope. Patrick, you are incredible. Thank you for always documenting these deaths.
