New Jersey: “crashed through metal gate – humerus shattered into approximately 11 distinct fragments and numerous small, crushed fragments” – and many more…

Through a FOIA request to the New Jersey Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at that state’s tracks in 2021 (this is part 2; part 1 here).

Siesta Moon, Jul 13, Monmouth T – “crashed through metal gate – humerus shattered into approximately 11 distinct fragments and numerous small, crushed fragments”

Dixieland Darling, Jul 17, Monmouth R – “[multiple] fractures [and] ligament tears”

Shadow Fall, Jul 20, Monmouth T – “[multiple] fractures; ruptures, tears, hemorrhage” (two years old, being prepped for first race)

Justacrumbsnatcher, Jul 27, Monmouth T – “fracture [with] sclerosis and necrosis” (two years old, being prepped for first race)

Fame to Famous, Aug 3, Monmouth S
“Severe, acute laminitis in all four feet. Separation of the parietal surface of the P3 from the inner surface of the hoof wall, leaving a gap (approximately 3-5 mm) due to complete separation of the lamellae, and the tip of P3 had slightly sunk distally toward the sole. Scattered hemorrhages observed over the head, neck, thorax, abdomen, and limbs – consistent with trauma related to peri-mortem collapse.” (four years old)

Whittaker N, Aug 6, Meadowlands R – “ventricular tachycardia, dropped dead”

Abiding Star, Aug 7, Monmouth T – “collapsed [and died] – severe epistaxis [bleeding from nose]”

Chublicious, Aug 8, Monmouth R
“There was a very large laceration of the LF fetlock with wide exposure of the fractured MC3…small amount of tissue holding the fracture site together and heavy contamination with foreign particulates (i.e., dirt and gravel). [H]emorrhage, complete rupture, and tearing of multiple tendons and ligaments…bone separated into three fracture components.” Also: “There was a laceration, tear, and hemorrhage in the right forelimb, [and] severe osteochondral disease [in both] forelimbs.”

Knockout Punch, Aug 21, Monmouth R – “severe, complete, displaced neck fracture [with] fragments displaced into the surrounding [tattered] musculature”; also: “chronic traumatic osteoarthropathy, [multiple] joints” (five years old)

Final Prospect, Aug 23, Monmouth S – “95% obstructed airway” (nine years old)

Pop’s Your Crazy, Aug 25, Monmouth S – “laminitis post fever [of] six-week duration” (two years old)

  1. AND THE CONNECTIONS and owners just looked the other way. If you can’t take care of your children and animals don’t have them. Fame to Famous how absolutely pathetic. Nice going track with the sea breeze Monmouth.

  2. Fame to fortune. How unbelievably disgusting. Any human who walked past that poor suffering animal should be prosecuted. Isn’t animal abuse and neglect against the law?

    • Animal abuse and neglect is against the law, but in the case of horseracing it is overlooked because the horses are property and it’s “common industry practice.” This is why the public needs to be made aware that horseracing is not a sport, that it’s animal cruelty and it must end. Education on the cruelty and suffer and the killing is so important.

        • No Bonnie, laws must be enforced. There are laws against animal cruelty already. They don’t mean a thing if nobody provides consequences for breaking those laws.

          • Excellent point! As far as I’m concerned I would throw the “Kitchen Sink” at all of them. When it comes to ANIMALS with me, you DON’T f**k my animals. They are MY passion.

  3. Patrick, breaking news. Medina Spirit disqualified from KY Derby win. Mandolin declared winner. Baffett fined $ 7500.00 and suspended 3 months March to June.

  4. What a hideously cruel joke — the report on Bob Baffert being banned from the Kentucky Derby for 2022!!! Here we go again… Don’t you think that Clark Brewster will be able to bullshit his way out of this “punishment” for rotten to the core Bob Baffert and the whole rotten to the core ABUSE AND NEGLECT of exploiting horses for racing and wagering revenue?
Allegedly, without Bob Baffert “dragging their so-called sport through the mud” the Kentucky Derby will allegedly have credibility. What a cruel sick joke!!!!
So-called Animal Wellness Action executive director Marty Irby defends horseracing as having “more credibility” “without him” meaning of course Baffert.
All of the trainers dope the horses including Brad Cox/ MANDALOUN. All of the trainers are guilty of forcing young, underdeveloped racehorses to perform at their maximum physical exertion and INJECTING THE HORSES WITH VARIOUS SUBSTANCES TO ENHANCE PERFORMANCE. Horseracing is horse abuse and torture.
It’s too bad that the horses abused, tortured and eventually killed every day and every week are not mentioned on the CBS EVENING NEWS; horses that are “trained” by “licensed” “trainers” that are leaving a trail of dead horses behind in pursuit of their morally depraved gambling racket.

  5. Those responsible for these injuries and deaths of horses should be criminally punished. The racing of horses should be ended. This is the only way to solve the problem.
