According to a source at the track, Celestial Image collapsed and died immediately following the running of the 2nd race at Mahoning yesterday. Celestial was almost seven, and this was his 42nd time under the whip.
In NY, the 2-year-old colt You’llrememberwhen is reported (Gaming Commission) to have “died in [his] stall” at Finger Lakes April 3. “Possible colic,” they say. Before inconveniently dying, You’llrememberwhen was being readied for his debut.
This is horseracing.

So sorry Celestial Image that you suffered unnecessarily and had your life stolen from you for $2 bets and entertainment.
These inexcusable racehorse deaths make me feel ashamed to be a human being.
Today, so much can be done for the horse when struck down with colic. It appears that this 2 year old baby horse, You’llrememberwhen was not being monitored in relation to his health. Early intervention is so important but clearly the industry has no policy in place to ensure the welfare of the racehorse.
Repugnant and unconscionable.
Carolyn, yes, Celestial Image collapsed and died while walking back to the paddock after crossing the wire. Collapsed and died. How utterly revolting but this is horseracing.
