Sue, we have had our horses clip our heels when walking ahead of them. At times we wish we had a tail to swish them back with. Of course no harm done to us as no speed involved. We have also been involved with our universities drill team many years ago & were amazed how few or no riders of our team including our advisor were aware of the danger of clipping heels when riding horses in close company!
At Far Hills on Saturday, October 17, 2026 in Race 2, a 5-Year-Old gelding named UNCLE BOSS is listed as a DNF on Equibase.
Rick- per Twitter reports, the sucky jockey (Steve Assmussen’s son, Keith) made the horse clip heels and fall. Horse supposedly walked off.
My horses have literally never clipped heels and fallen over or because of each other in the pasture when they’ve been running around. Another example of the pain and damage racing inflicts on its victims.
What happened to Wild Acclaim at Keeneland? I’m watching this track closely since the Breeders Cup is there in a couple of weeks.
Far Hills, don’t tell me, will be announcing what a good/great time was had by all, the hundreds of thousands of dollars in purse money, and any horse that was injured will be swept under the rug. If a jockey was injured badly, that might be mentioned.
