According to the chart for the 4th at Delaware Wednesday, two horses, Fiveclocksomewhere and Precious Sight, went down, with the latter falling over the former. While the writer added, with optimism, that both “walked onto the ambulance to be vanned off,” we now know at least one, Fiveclocksomewhere, did not survive. She was four years old. Her love-em-like-children owner, Desmond James, also had her “For Sale” the day she died. Also complicit: breeder My Meadowview, trainer Pedro Nazario, jockey Leandro Briceno, and anyone who supports this ugly industry in any way.

My heart goes out to both Fiveclocksomewhere and Precious Sight. Two young horses went down in the same race, and both deserved so much more than to be treated as disposable commodities. Fiveclocksomewhere lost her life, and Precious Sight was also injured and vanned off. Whatever her outcome, she deserves to be remembered and cared about, too. They were living, feeling beings not entries on a chart or commodities for sale. What a travesty of a “sport!”
