Through a FOIA request to the Arizona Dept. of Gaming, I have confirmed the following kills at Turf Paradise thus far this year. (Turf is the only currently running track in Arizona. Because of the amount of detail, I am posting in installments – previous here.)
Arma d’Oro, Mar 3, Turf R
“Horse fell [before race], couldn’t get up, seemed to lose use of all four legs. [Multiple] acute, comminuted vertebral fractures; large amount of hemorrhage within spinal canal.” Also: “chronic degenerative joint disease, multiple joints; chronic gastric ulceration.” Arma was seven and had already been put to the whip 50 times.
Chase This King, Mar 7, Turf R
“Acute, severe, comminuted fractures both front legs.” Both front legs. King was three.
Completeness, Mar 11, Turf S
“Monday, filly fell and hit her head, nystagmus of both eyes, treated with anti-inflammatories. Wednesday, she became unstable and started thrashing in her stall. Acute, complete skull fracture; purulent meningomyeloencephalitis in the brain and spinal cord. Euthanized.” Completeness was still just one. One. Out of words.
Jess Rock It, Mar 11, Turf R
“Multiple acute, severe, open fractures – both forelimbs.” They added: “Both forelimbs were only connected via skin near the carpometacarpal joints.” Again, that’s broken bones sticking out of both front legs. Jess had just turned three.
I can’t stop crying over Jackie the eagle that I’ve followed forever. I’m sorry I know this is for beautiful horses but animal lovers can relate. This just solidifies my quest to end horse abuses and not give up the purpose. Thank you for listening.
As morally depraved as these killings of horses are under the jurisdiction of a state racing commission, God only knows how many yearlings these evil depraved people have killed on their farms or somewhere while not under the jurisdiction of a state racing commission.
I’d like to see some of these people’s legs snap the F off …then we’d see an attitude adjustment.
