Through a FOIA request to the Arizona Dept. of Gaming, I have confirmed the following kills at Turf Paradise thus far this year. (Turf is the only currently running track in Arizona. Because of the amount of detail, I am posting in installments – previous here.)
Raging Pulpit, Jan 7, Turf T
“Horse collided with another horse during training and then collapsed on the track: complete, comminuted fracture of right scapula with extensive hemorrhage.” Pulpit was two and being prepped for his first race.
Sarah Special, Jan 10, Turf T
“Fell past wire, gained footing, then collapsed again off track: comminuted scapular fracture – acute, severe with muscle maceration and hemorrhage.” Also: “chronic osteoarthritis; chronic ulcers.” Then this: “While pulmonary hemorrhage can be an agonal change, the presence of concurrent chronic changes suggests that this patient has also experienced previous episodes.” Sarah was three and being prepped for her first race.
Legal Mousse, Jan 20, Turf R
“Lost action in its hind legs, euthanized. No fractures [but] epidural spinal cord hemorrhage at level of T2, T1, C7; prominent hemorrhage throughout entirety of epidural lumbar spinal cord.” Also: “fly eggs within both nostrils and oral cavity.” Mousse was four.
The Transitioner, Apr 22, Turf R
“Horse pulled up [chart said, ‘went bad’]: acute, comminuted humeral fracture with severe soft tissue injury and hemorrhage.” Also: “degenerative joint disease RF and RH fetlocks.” The Transitioner was four.
Sarah Special was three years old, never raced and had chronic osteoarthritis?!
Disgusting. Things are just going so good. Sad. Some thought things were gonna change 😒 How do these “horse people” live with themselves? Normal people would feel so horrible about themselves. Must be easy …if you’re born without a conscience.
I wonder if the fly eggs in the nostrils of the horse named LEGAL MOUSSE were from the screwworm fly. The United States Department of Agriculture should be reporting on it if they were. Also, who knows if the flies laid the eggs when the horse was alive or shortly after death.
These horse-abusing people are allowed to get away with the most heinous crimes against horses. These reports give a glimpse of just how vile and sadistic these people are in the Arizona horse racing industry.
