The chart note for Splendid Song in the 6th at Delaware Saturday: “no factor…eased and was transported off the track on the equine ambulance.” In fact, the track has announced, she is dead, at three. The track’s GM: “Our thoughts are with the horse’s owner, trainer, jockey and everyone connected to the horse, as well as the broader racing community.” Here, all those people – Xtreme Racing Stables, McLean Robertson, Carol Cedeno, “the broader racing community” – receive our most severe condemnation.

Steve, are they pretending to show respect for the dead by putting up a tarp, while anyone capable of putting two and two together would know that the State Racing Stewards willfully refused to advocate FOR the horse before the race, as Janyce points out.
If the Racing Stewards weren’t absolutely corrupt in their greed and bloodlust, they would have prevented the FATAL COLLAPSE of this horse that was “No factor” in any part of the race by scratching her from entering the starting gates!

Keep the people blind to the reality, lest they see things for what they truly are and their conscience be aroused and motivated to act against the perpetrators. The industry participants obscure their collective conscience with money, and attempt to likewise obscure the public’s. But a conscience is the scariest of things if you’re on the wrong side of it, and there is no tarp that can hide the truth forever. Until then, the horses suffer.

Cindy Glatz, thank you for sharing the numbers. So far what I’ve read is that both New York and Delaware have protocols for when the Heat Index is 105 and over 105.
The racing commissioners are supposed to get together and act like they’re professional people that give a s*** about anything besides money and determine whether or not to race. They’re supposed to cancel racing when the heat index is over 105 to protect the horses. It says it is mandated to cancel all training and racing when the Heat Index is over 105.
I am so sick of these people acting like pieces of slime!
I pray that one day the horse racing industry is shut down. Too many horses have died on the track and the horses are forced to run no matter their condition or when there are weather issues. This has to end. Enough suffering for these poor animals!

My guess is she collapsed from a possible combination of asphyxiation from the tongue ties and metal mouth bits (as described by the BITLESS BRIDLE PROFESSOR) and Heat Exhaustion/Stroke, Overexertion.
Her body couldn’t take the extreme demands under the conditions in which she was forced to perform. This is another case of a horse being commodified by the racing industry people.
The temperature at the track was 87 degrees, the heat index was 107. The “feels like” temperature was 106. Those horses should never have been asked to race in that heat! There are currently NO temperature regulations in place for race horses, totally unacceptable! RIP Splendid Song.
They killed that poor horse! Nothing but greed! I hold all involved guilty! The owners, the trainers, the jockey … any one of them should have advocated for the HORSE! NO RACING in that heat! The park officials should shut down all races in that heat.

I was there when it happened I saw no injury I just watched the horse collapse in front of 1000 people. Staff ran up with a giant screen so the onlookers couldn’t see what was going on. Other staff brought 20 gallons worth of cold water behind that screen. A staff member told me that she was dead 10 minutes later.
The picture of a young horse that has not been cared about or for as a sentient being BUT INSTEAD exploited as a COMMODITY & FATALLY INJURED, not able to walk off the racetrack, is the FACE OF HORSERACING!
This is the REALITY that the hardcore ANIMAL WELFARE VIOLATORS who make the most money in horseracing, such as Lisa Lazarus for example, want to put a spin on to attempt to make you think that you’re not really seeing what you’re seeing as in a shell game of sorts.
Sugar Bee who is listed in the weekly injured report fell during the same race that Splendid Song was deceased. Sugar fell but according to reports got up after the fall and walked off the track. Also,I am seeing two different reports regarding Splendid Song. One is saying she collapsed and the other there was an injury. So what is it? A cover for collapsing from the unbearable weather conditions or an injury from being forced to run at the last race of the day?
