Two unidentified horses were killed in a head-on training collision at Parx Saturday. The only reason we know about this now (as opposed to when we file our FOIA) is because one of the riders has been hospitalized, and that is about all that’s deemed newsworthy by the racing press at places like Parx – i.e., cheap tracks, cheap horses, they don’t care.
As a postscript, trainer Butch Reid’s family has set up a GoFundMe for the rider. In it, they thank people in advance for their “compassion” – something, of course, that Reid, the rider, and everyone else in this evil business conspicuously denied to the dead horses.
We have had the experience of a loose horse coming straight on towards us as we were galloping in am! The rider / trainer was galloping an unprepared correctly horse for riding in company when the horse tossed him off in the paddock area & ran onto the track. The horse we were galloping fortunately allowed us to turn around & go the opposite way of normal galloping with the loose horse. Technically against the rules for galloping horses in am. By doing so & going in same direction of loose horse we avoided a serious wreck! Of course at 1st the horse people were angry about the horse & us leaving the track through the gap in the wrong direction. Later they saw the loose horse fly by the gap & closed both gates to the on & off gaps. Still later a couple of days later the trainer / rider tried & did gallop a few horses in a cast for a broken ankle! The outrider finally noticed & told him to get off the track & stay off until he no longer was wearing a cast. There are truly some idiotic , dumb & stupid people in this ” crooked, crummy, gamboling game”. So glad we left in the fall of 2004.
