“Scratched – deceased.”

I have been able to confirm (Indiana Commission) the following kills at Horseshoe:

Mister Kelly, Apr 8: “Incurred a catastrophic injury – bilateral sesamoid fractures – near the 5/16 pole, was vanned off and humanely euthanized in the barn area.” Mister Kelly had just turned nine, and this was his 47th time under the whip.

Keg, Apr 15: “Scratched – deceased [no other details].” Keg was four.

Woodaz, Apr 21: “After schooling in the paddock, the horse flipped and hit its head on the ground, suffering a skull fracture.” Woodaz was four.

  1. Horses that earn millions of dollars must be by law entitled to federal and state legislation. All horses must receive compassion and nationwide protection. The owners of Churchill Downs received 663 million in the 1st quarter and not 1 cent was paid out for the comfort of champion race horses or used up claimers.

There is also an article about a horse named “The Hell He Did”, unacceptable that such a filthy, contemptible name be applied to a courageous race horse. The Jockey Club and the farm that named this horse must be castigated about their lack of sensitivity and respect for horses. However, the name would be most appropriate (if altered to be an epitaph for when horse racing is banned in all jurisdictions of the world). Closed – Due to The Hell They Imposed on race horses.

The entire state of Kentucky should be ashamed of the attitude of their immoral and apathetic citizens….Kentucky produced Abraham Lincoln. If Abe were alive he would be charging the court houses and demanding safety and rescue of gallant and bold horses. What a pity America sold out her heart and conscience to Wall Street billionaires.

Those of us who truly love horses consider it the richest blessings from God to stand in the company of a horse and have that animal look into our souls with their eyes…to leave them without rescue is treason against God and against all of heaven. There is no excuse for God’s laws of compassion to be ignored and violated and no excuse will be permitted on Judgement Day.

Wake up, Racetrackers, there are 2 options, and only 1 choice, Heaven or Hell, but the choice you make is irrevocable.

  2. In the Dale Hiteman (spelling?) case of him beating/whipping a Standardbred filly in her stall, the reports that come up on the Internet and YouTube say that a “veterinarian” said that there were no signs of external or mental trauma to the horse.
    Wouldn’t you know it?!
I have no doubts that the veterinarian in question would have a much different perspective of physical and mental trauma if someone tied him (or her) to a post and beat on him/her with a whip.
I would like to know the name of the so-called veterinarian and I assume this person was paid/ rewarded in some way to throw the horse under the bus, so to speak.
I agree 100% with Jdoe that horseracing is a scam.

  3. I was referring to Woodaz (the horse who flipped and fractured head) ….Uncle Hulka, did same thing in NY….to be clear.

  4. Three horses killed at this location is three horses too many! I suspect that there were more horses abused to death, or near death, at Horseshoe and hauled off to an off-track location.

  5. This happened to poor Uncle Hulka in NY not long ago (maybe months) he was a baby ….possibly not even three yet.

  6. A horse flipping and dying is a symptom of a sham industry that is nothing more than a taxpayer ripoff and devoid of horsemanship from top to bottom.

This happens way too many times.

When a horse rears up don’t pull on the lead shank!

If you do, a horse’s natural reaction is to pull back his head, causing him to lose his balance and flip over backwards.

  7. And to add to my earlier comment – his chart says “pulled up on the turn and returning home in the equine ambulance”.
Like he was out for a pleasant Sunday drive. Sickening.

  8. Poor Mister Kelly was made to bumble around in a horse trailer on a severely broken leg. There was nothing humane about his death.

  9. Today as I read the names, Woodaz, Keg and Mister Kelly, my stomach is sickened beyond nausea. These horses should be alive and thriving. All three aren’t considered “old “ by no stretch of the imagination!

Horses don’t “flip” in paddocks or anywhere else without cause. Before, during or after “schooling “. This horse suffered the effects of horseracing, period.

A four year old dead/scratched and that’s it huh ? RIGHT!!!!!!!

Mister Kelly wasn’t euthanized humanely at all! Mister Kelly was tortured against his will for the nine years he was made to train and race!!

    Outrageous 🚫🏇🏽🚫
