Kill at Santa Anita, Kill at Aqueduct, Kill at Laurel

Angel’s Edition, says the CHRB, was killed training at Santa Anita Sunday – no details till our FOIA. She had just (May 1) turned two and was being prepped for her first race. She becomes the 10th (that we know about) kill at Santa Anita this year.

Also, the NYS Gaming Commission has only just disclosed the death of E Z Bourbon, a “vanned off” in the 7th at Aqueduct Mar 15. He was four.

Finally, I have confirmed that Latta, a “pulled up lame, transported off on ambulance” at Laurel Jan 17, is indeed dead. He, too, was four, and this was his 17th time under the whip.

Dead horses every day – this is horseracing.

  1. This happens whenever a high-profile track (SA, Saratoga, Churchill) experiences a kill cluster, Karen. Under intense media/public scrutiny, they desperately try to identify a culprit – when in fact it is their very industry itself.

  2. Karen, Yes they did many horses were injured & died causing an investigation of why. We all of course no why. They did some major changes to the track surface & to horse vet inspections before a race. For a little while it may have helped but in the long run did not. We have always felt the changing of racing surfaces on their downhill course was not good. I think it was in 2014? Not sure of date. I`m sure if one does a search online you will find many articles about the break downs.

  3. Didn’t Santa Anita have a huge problem with horses breaking down, a few years ago? Didn’t they look closely at the track surface? I can’t remember what stupid excuse they came up with.
