How many horses were killed on Kentucky Derby Day? These lists and videos offer clues.

Yesterday, as reported, Morlock was killed at Aqueduct. But surely, the 4-year-old cardiac victim was not the only “athlete” killed on Kentucky Derby Day. In fact, no fewer than six horses were so badly injured yesterday they needed an ambulance to get off the track:

Fast Dashn Devil at Delta (also “bled” – pulmonary hemorrhage)
Flatter Me Avery at Evangeline
Jane Plain at Horseshoe
Who Said That at Louisiana
Princetown at Oaklawn
Jez an Angel at Sam Houston

Here is Flatter Me Avery’s fall. Note: She “won” then went down after the wire. I would be shocked if she survived (we will know on all of these soon enough with our FOIAs).

And then there were these, not reported as ambulanced but…

Adifferent Tigerlily “hit rail, DNF” at Miles City
Miss Smokn Mirrors “went over rail, DNF” at Pocatello
Pevs Giddy Up Go “bled [pulmonary hemorrhage]” at Remington
Morgan’s Bluff “fell, DNF” at Thistledown

Here is Morgan’s Bluff:

And here is 3-year-old Jr Miss Starlet going down at Horseshoe Friday:

  1. FLATTER ME AVERY appears to have dropped from a sudden death but I can’t say for sure. The video cuts off too soon to be sure.
It really is sickening that the track announcer is so (🤮) excited about the heartless exploitation of these four-legged racing slaves!

  2. So very sad
    I’m so sorry.

I love all of you sweet babies. God Bless You 💜

  3. And then there are the “Derby Day” commenters on TV and elsewhere tripping over themselves spewing nonsense as to what a wonderful spectacle it is and how it is the most exciting 2 minutes in sports and how they all want to attend!! I even heard an interview with Joe Drape.
Makes one wonder what other superficial cherry picking nonsense is masquerading as “news”!
These people don’t have a clue but unfortunately have a huge platform.

  4. Then there was Great White’s dramatic flip and scratch prior to the Derby. He’s an immature 2 year old, and I am betting to guess he was overwhelmed by the circus that was the derby.
