According to the chart for the 3rd at Horseshoe yesterday, More Than a Dream “fell near the quarter pole and was vanned home”; according to the announcer, said fall was but a “spill.” All sounds so innocent, right? Well, you decide…
(We won’t know the 3-year-old’s fate till our FOIA.)

A “spill” is usually how people who are pleasure riding refer to a very non-serious fall of the rider, not the horse, and certainly doesn’t involve any injuries—let alone death! It’s another attempt by race writers to make things seem far less horrific and serious than they are.
RIP, More Than a Dream. Your life was definitely a nightmare.
More Than a Dream IS dead…from the track’s X;
“An incident occurred in race 3 where More Than a Dream stumbled, fell and unseated jockey Joseph Romero. Joseph is alert and moving and is being transported to Methodist Hospital for further evaluation. After careful review from our track veterinarian the decision was made to humanely euthanize More Than a Dream.”
The death of one of their “beloved family members”…a mere INCIDENT.
P. S. There is absolutely nothing about horseracing that is “innocent”!
At the very least, the announcer was not completely indifferent to the horrific fall of the horse and the jockey. Whether the announcer was more concerned about the jockey than the horse is a fair question.
Forcing underdeveloped colts and fillies to gallop at top speed while carrying the weight of a whip-wielding rider is unacceptable mistreatment of horses.
This is the Modus Operandi of the people in this inhumane industry. It is morally depraved to brush the cruelty and the carnage off as part of the game. Horse racing insiders know this killing of horses is “part of the game” as they put it. This shows the heartless callousness of racetrackers and why horse racing needs to be banned.
Marie this video & other breakdowns need to be shown at all race tracks on a digital billboard on multiple replays. The bettors & the public need to know what their $$ are supporting.
This needs to be replayed over and over on a digital billboard outside the racetrack.
Or by major highways.
How horrific for this poor horse.
