Fred & Joan, it doesn’t make much sense that it took “Mattress Mack” so long to react to the obvious doping/cheating that has been going on for decades.
I don’t have any hopes of his horse surviving the inevitable trip to the slaughterhouse in South Korea.
If he has the horse shipped back to the United States and there is proof that the horse is alive by then (whatever year that might be) and it is obvious that his horse was not slaughtered in South Korea, then I will be surprised.
I find it quite unbelievable that he or his trainers only go with hay, oats, and water. If he never used legal painkillers in legal doses on his race horses, that means his horses suffered in silence from the logical consequences of being forced to gallop.
Have just read of owners McIngvales leaving racing! He blames all the drugs, cheating, lack of integrity in the auction process! We could have told him that in 2004 & later in 2010! That`s why we left. His sire Run Happy is to go to South Korea to stand at stud. Hope they have an ironclad Ferdinand clause in contract! We have seen & heard of horses going straight from our old Portland Meadows to South Korea in the mid-2,000`s to slaughter like what eventually happened to the Derby winner Ferdinand in Japan. The racing industry is a sinking ship. Slow but sure.
Horses don’t have a choice about being used and abused for something that is going to cause them to suffer physically and mentally; racing causes degenerative joint disease and a long list of other things.
It is morally depraved for people to think that this abuse and brutality is entertaining.
People dressing up in dinosaur suits and running on the dirt track at Emerald Downs was entertaining; they were not being whipped or shocked by a jockey.
Multiple sources reporting Brian Hernandez is in very bad condition after the fall yesterday with Sgt Garcia a 2 year old. The wife is asking for prayers. This is just another strong reason that this industry should be expired sooner than later.
