A few years back, Nebraska green-lit racinos partly to save the light, moribund horseracing industry there. Although there are six racing licenses, save for Fonner Park the tracks have been running a bare minimum of races – just enough to keep their licenses intact with the promise of casino gaming (and sports betting) on the horizon. Horsemen’s Park and Atokad Downs, for example, ran just five days combined this year.
This past Tuesday, Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack opened – its license having been transferred from Fair Play Park, which ran just two races (with just three horses in each) last year. So desperate was Lake Mac to fill its debut races, we got the following: 1st race – Mollys Fury, aged 12; Melody of the Wind, aged 11; Pyc Angel Eyes, aged 9. 3rd race (there were only three) – Soft Country Eyes, aged 11.
It’s all animal abuse, folks, but some is just a little bit extra.

Is there anyone who is NOT embarrassed by this abominable but desperate attempt to keep horseracing afloat in Nebraska?!
This is truly despicable. Maybe they will attract the horse-abusing thugs from Wyoming to add a few more beat up horses to their display of disgustingness.
That’s heartbreaking. 💔 Horses that age should be enjoying turnout with other horses and plenty of forage not pushed into races. It’s outright abuse. Shame!
