The Ambulance Report

The following horses were injured in U.S. races last week and had to be removed from the track by “equine ambulance.” While fates remain unknown at this time, we will eventually get death confirmations on many, if not most, through our FOIA reporting. Note, also, that “bled” is shorthand for pulmonary hemorrhage – bleeding in the lungs.

C J’s Grand Slam at Finger Lakes (also “visible bleeding from the nostrils”)
Mortgage Rate at Finger Lakes
Capt. Candy at Penn
The Best Freightrain at Delta (also “bled”)
Bella Artiste at Penn
Happy Wagon at Prairie
Hi Pockets Hadli at Prairie
You Look Famous at Retama
Hero Status at Saratoga
Brave Buck at Saratoga
Kuchar at Saratoga
Aterradora at Saratoga
Dorine’s Wild Cat at Del Mar
Bodaddy at Hawthorne (after being “slammed at start”)
Mo Dandy at Oneida

And then there were these, not reported as ambulanced off, but…

Jitter Juice “flipped in gate and became lodged” at Finger Lakes
Heavy Pour “stopped, having bled” at Presque Isle
Stanza “fell, DNF” at Colonial
Ramblin Riggs “hit rail, DNF” at Delta

  1. A certain racetrack veterinarian who was employed by Parx in Pennsylvania was reported to have “rescued” a Thoroughbred mare and then used her to supposedly breed a strain of Thoroughbreds resistant to Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage. But, she said that since everyone else is using Lasix that it “forces her hand” to also use Lasix.
Now this was supposed to be a “true story” but it reminds of this other story I heard over fifty years ago that there was a man who wanted to get an Abadile by crossing a crocodile with an abalone, but all he got was a Crock O’ Baloney.

  2. I would be shocked if any of these people, including the trainers and the veterinarians, connected to the horses listed above came out and admitted what kind of dastardly things they did, or had someone else do, to these horses and had an attack of conscience and made the decision to stop all of the abuse and get out of the racing, Pari-mutuel gambling and breeding industry completely once and for all.

  3. The sad look of the eye of the beautiful grey above says it all about this industry based on gamboling $$.
