Through a FOIA request to the Indiana Horse Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Horseshoe thus far this year.

Make Your Move, Feb 18, Horseshoe S – “colic…euthanized”
Make Your Move was two years old and being prepped for his first race.

My First Wagon, Mar 4, Horseshoe T – “legs became entangled in reins, fractured cannon”
My First Wagon was three weeks shy of her second birthday. Yes, still one.

El Ferdie, Apr 11, Horseshoe T – “open [through the skin] radial fracture”
El Ferdie had just turned three and was being prepped for his first race.

Doyouknowmuffinman, May 10, Horseshoe T – “comminuted humerus fracture”
Doyouknowmuffinman was two years old and being prepped for his first race.

Lb Brazilian Trick, May 13, Horseshoe R – “comminuted scapula”
Lb was two years old; this was his very first race.

Gus and Woodrow, May 14, Horseshoe R – “[multiple] fractures”
Gus was three years old.

Lb Lucky Six, May 29, Horseshoe R – “scapula fracture”
Lb was two years old; this was her very first race.

Allaboutthedress, Jun 3, Horseshoe T – “exercise-associated pulmonary hemorrhage”
Allabout was two years old and being prepped for her first race.

Kentucky Justice, Jun 10, Horseshoe R – “fractured sesamoid, ruptured tendon”
Kentucky was three years old.

Word of Honor, Jun 11, Horseshoe R – “phalanx fracture”
Word of Honor was three years old; this was her second race.

Theo’s Promise, Jun 22, Horseshoe S – “suspected mesenteric volvulus”
Theo’s was four years old and had been raced Jun 5.

Flash Gordn, Jun 28, Horseshoe R – “scapula fracture”
Flash was two years old; this was his very first race.

  1. Abusing horses as a sport is morally depraved. These people in Indiana and every other state should be charged with Animal Cruelty and put in jail.

  2. Flash Gordn’s chart says “fell at the wire, walked off”. The poor horse had a broken shoulder and, by “walked off”, I assume it means they walked him all the way back to his stall, with a broken shoulder. That poor horse.
