The following horses were injured in U.S. races last week and had to be removed from the track by “equine ambulance.” While fates remain unknown at this time, we will eventually get death confirmations on many, if not most, through our FOIA reporting. Note, also, that “bled” is shorthand for pulmonary hemorrhage – bleeding in the lungs.
Speed Institute at Ellis
Mula at Ellis
Smokin’ Alone at Finger Lakes (also “visible bleeding”)
La Macchina Rossa at Penn
Holy Llegador at Retama (also “hit rail twice”)
Blue Creek at Saratoga
Wamo at Saratoga
Political Spin at Saratoga
Strike Three at Charles Town
Bet Again at Evangeline
Rc Tarzenito Chic at Fair Meadows
Who Can’t Wait at Thistledown
Benvolio at Gulfstream
Signature Cocktail at Monmouth
Hunters Ghost at Prairie
Origami at Del Mar (also “fell”)
Candysfirst at Horseshoe (also “fell”)
Chicken Nugget at Wyoming
And then there were these, not reported as ambulanced off, but…
Manny Too “slammed gate at start, DNF” at Charles Town
To Hot to Freight “injured, DNF” at Gillespie

From our home page: “Please note: While our focus here is on a single industry and a single species, Horseracing Wrongs stands against all animal exploitation. We hold that no animal should be bred, domesticated, and used for human purposes. The fundamental wrong, as we see it, lies in animal property; as long as we continue to own them, talk of ‘rights’ is positively meaningless. Accordingly, we are not interested in reform or so-called welfare improvements – simply an end, to horseracing, to all of it.” In other words, Horseracing Wrongs is a vegan organization. That said, your comment is the definition of straw man. You come on here and desperately try to distract from the issue at hand because you know you can’t begin to justify the cruelty and killing in horseracing.
When are you going to mention all the cattle and little sweet calf’s , all the little pigs that their heads are being cut off so you can have your hamburgers and barbecue every day.
I wonder if any of the trainers of the horses listed above would say that “their” horse is “sound”? I know that sounds like a ridiculous question but get a load of this…
A top tier horse named RAGING TORRENT is out of “the game” due to a Suspensory Ligament Injury in one front leg. One of the owners says he will be retired from racing while the trainer, Doug O’Neill, says the horse is sound.
The definition of “Soundness” is freedom from injury, damage, defect, disease, etc.
The horse is definitely suffering from an injury and yet the trainer is demented enough to say the horse is sound.
The horse may, or may not, recover from the injury with whatever treatment that is recommended for Suspensory Ligament Injuries but the horse is clearly Unsound at this point. He may never recover.
Have to admit every time we see that beautiful grey horse above with that lip chain it makes us cringe! The use of chains & nasty bits, whips as well as all the illegal vet procedures had us leave the racing industry in the fall of 2004.
