In the 8th at Delta yesterday, two horses went down: The Rhino and Jaccx Sizzle. The replay, below, only shows the one – presumably Jaccx as the chart said The Rhino “fell over downed horse.” Won’t know outcomes till our FOIA. Not that ages matter, but this race was called the “Louisiana Juvenile Stakes,” meaning (you guessed it) both are (were?) but two years old. This, of course, is just a “spill” to the mind of the callous announcer.
Then this: In the Stewards’ Report at Delaware Jul 3, Complication “was fractious behind the gate [the chart said, ‘reluctant to load’), got loose twice, and was captured immediately.” The obviously terrified two-year-old was raced anyway, finishing last, 27+ lengths back. But no worries, for Delaware is a taxpayer-funded track paying first-last; simply by crossing the wire, the “fractious, reluctant” Complication “earned” his exploiters a cool $500. (Complication also finished last in his only other race thus far.)
In the very next race that day, Russian Hammer was “scratched” by the regulatory vet for being “lame in the post parade.” This means, unless Russian was injured in the lead-up to the race (unlikely), his exploiter, Pedro Posadas, had every intention of racing him lame.
This is horseracing.

It looks like Hawthorne is struggling to fill the race card for at least one day of the week. They can’t abuse and kill horses that aren’t born.
Wanda a couple of years ago we had 2 horses abandoned on airport county road!! They were hit by a local nurse on her way to work at our local hospital. Her recently paid off car was totaled. This happened early in am around 5 or 6. We felt so sorry for that nurse & those horses. We would not have minded if those horses had been placed behind our unlocked gates so as to prevent their devastating deaths & the traumatic experience for that nurse.
*egregiously wrong!
