Busy Ambulances…

The following horses were injured in U.S. races last week and had to be removed from the track by “equine ambulance.” While fates remain unknown at this time, we will eventually get death confirmations on many, if not most, through our FOIA reporting. Note, also, that “bled” is shorthand for pulmonary hemorrhage – bleeding in the lungs.

  1. There was one jockey who was caught holding a buzzer in his hand because a photographer took a picture of him and posted the picture on Facebook. That brought it out in the open to where it was undeniable that he was guilty of using an illegal electrical shocking device on a racehorse. He was suspended for 20 (twenty) years.
I can only imagine that these jockeys who get caught and get suspended for 20 years would go to the unregulated racetracks where anything goes; and according to the undercover videos, it’s absolutely heinous what goes on at the unregulated racetracks!

  2. At Santa Anita you could always tell who was using a battery because around the 1/4 pole the horses would start violently swishing their tails even though the Jockey was sitting still.

There’s a reason horses for certain trainers always go straight to the lead(and it’s not because they are great horsemen or used to coach basketball)
It used to be very common in races but I think now with all the online access to video replays, it’s primarily used in gate training and workouts.

  3. For the longest time I didn’t know about jockeys using hand-held electrical shocking devices. In addition to the undercover video, I read that some jockeys at “regulated” racetracks would hide their illegal buzzers in the hoods of the racehorses quickly before or after dismounting to keep from getting caught. After that, I was very suspicious of the jockeys who rode horses with hoods.
There was an older jockey who was riding a certain horse with a hood in a particular race. He was in front, or at least ahead, of most of the horses and then, for whatever reason (?), the horse bucked. The jockey got trampled by the horses coming up from behind and was injured badly enough that he later died in the hospital. There was another person who seemed to know that jockey’s modus operandi and had commented on this site that he was known for using hand-held electrical shocking devices. To this day, I suspect that he buzzed the horse and that could be why the horse bucked during the race.

  4. It was so bad at Los Alamitos for awhile that if you watched the horses after the wire you’d actually see electrical shock devices flying through the air as the jockeys discarded them.

  5. Thank you, Marie. Your observation regarding a trainer who consistently dumps non-raceable horses into the slaughter pipeline or ships directly to slaughter basically tells everyone all they need to know about the moral depravity of the members of the racing commissions. Again, this is a case of the foxes guarding the hen house. Horses are a commodity to them obviously. Forget about being kind and respectful to horses when it comes to business as usual.
Horseracing is only “socially acceptable” to those people who prioritize money and profits over horseflesh.

  6. Flaring Song was vanned off in his last race, which was June 3.
But, his trainer is Danny Bird, who has a proven record of being a huge piece of shit, really doesn’t care, I am sure, as he can always dispose of him to the meat man, as is his MO.
Shame on racing commissions that even allow him to train when it has been PROVEN he dumps horses at slaughterhouses!

  7. After reading parts of the article about D. Wayne Lukas and skimming over the rest of it, it’s sort of an experience or an exercise in a temporary state of delusional thinking because of the way they glorify his life and “achievements” in the horse racing industry and also before he became a licensed trainer. The article says people called him “Coach” at the racetracks because he had been a coach in a sport that didn’t involve horses prior to his becoming a licensed trainer.
The article reads like a eulogy and completely fails on purpose to mention the use of the various torture devices used on racehorses.
It doesn’t mention anything at all about the untold hundreds if not thousands of horses that were injured, crippled, maimed and killed during his illustrious career in horse racing. It’s as if that doesn’t happen in horseracing which is why I call it an experience in being temporarily delusional while reading parts of it. It’s like flipping a switch to filter out the reality of the horrendously brutal treatment of horses exploited for racing. Forget that real live horses go lame and suffer miserably. Forget that the use of legal drugs, illegal drugs, whips, lip chains, tongue ties, severe bits, illegal electrical shocking devices were commonplace and used during his illustrious career. Filter out the video of Gary Stevens and D. Wayne Lukas laughing about the jockeys using illegal electrical shocking devices on the horses in the starting gates and how it sounds with all of the buzzers going off at the start of the race.
The videos are really an eye opener if you’re like me and were not there first-hand to see world-class horse trainers approving the use of illegal electrical shocking devices on the horses that they are counting on to make them famous and win lots of money for their owners including the fractional owners.
Flip the delusional switch to OFF and read the lists of injured, maimed and killed horses and be returned to the real-life suffering caused by human beings (including D. Wayne Lukas) to horses exploited for racing and gambling.
