From the NYS Gaming Commission, Jun 16 at Finger Lakes: “Never-raced horse received biaxial [that would be multiple] sesamoid fractures while training – due to poor prognosis the horse was euthanized.” Yes, she “received” those fractures. Vile. The “never-raced horse” in question was 3-year-old A Definite Nine. She is the 5th kill (that we know about) at Finger Lakes since Apr 29.
In California, the racing board says that Pura Vida Summer died at Los Alamitos Tuesday. While details will have to wait till our FOIA, I can tell you he had a timed training session at Santa Anita the day prior – likely related. Pura, too, was but three years old.

RIP, A Definite Nine and Pura Vida Summer!
How does a three year-old horse fracture bones without some kind of accident or fall? They just fractured?
How can anyone with any self-respect even think about being involved in this inhumane treatment and killing of horses? Horseracing is Animal Cruelty and it must be banned.
After so many centuries of horses being used and abused for racing and gambling entertainment, it’s a well-known and well-established fact that horses suffer horrendous injuries and death. It’s like gravity in that it cannot be reformed.
