Yesterday was Florida Derby Day at Gulfstream Park, the second biggest day of the year at this track (a track, I happily remind, that just may be doomed). Amid the festivities, however, no fewer than four horses required the “equine ambulance” to get off the track:
4-year-old Ciao Chuck (after “winning” his race)
4-year-old Beyond Stoked
3-year-old The Queens M G
5-year-old Doctor Jeff (“with signs of having bled”)
Given our 12 years of work on the “vanned off,” it’s highly likely that one or more of these horses did not survive the day. But here’s the rub: the state of Florida is now effectively covering up kills on its tracks. So while I will certainly try, we may never know these poor animals’ fates. On a more positive note, once again activists from SoFlo Animal Rights were out in force, fighting the fight, standing for the horses. Thank you, one and all.

Keep up the good work!
Nancy, Horse Racing Nation shared the information about The Queens M G.
They also shared a picture of the post on X by the owners. Typical racing industry speak; they gave her lots of peppermints, carrots and scratches. In my opinion, if she doesn’t get laminitis with being fed too much high-sugar-content foods and being cooped up in a 12×12 stall after surgery 23 to 24 hours a day every day which they call “stall rest” of course, it will be a miracle. It depends on how much they pay attention to her diet but she won’t be able to get enough exercise unless they give her therapy in a swimming pool for horses.
The three-year-old filly named The Queens M G certainly was not treated like royalty!
The chartwriter conveniently failed to mention why she pulled up. There is not one word mentioned regarding an injury or injuries. [We know she wasn’t being a prima donna princess that just didn’t want to walk off the racetrack.] She “later left the track” in an ambulance, but the chartwriter doesn’t mention anything about euthanasia or not.
How much later did she leave “the track in an equine ambulance”? Was she dead before leaving the track? A lack of transparency should be a MAJOR RED FLAG in anybody’s book!

2 His Horses Passed Away On Kentucky Derby Day?
CDI’s decision follows the highly-unusual sudden deaths of two horses trained by Joseph at Churchill Downs Racetrack: Parents Pride on Saturday and Chasing Artie on Tuesday. Lord Miles, trained by Joseph, has been scratched from Saturday’s 149th running of the Kentucky Derby.
“Given the unexplained sudden deaths, we have reasonable concerns about the condition of his horses, and decided to suspend him indefinitely until details are analyzed and understood,” said Bill Mudd, President and Chief Operating Officer of CDI. “The safety of our equine and human athletes and integrity of our sport is our highest priority. We feel these measures are our duty and responsibility.”
Sharon very sad for them not to mention the Queens breakdown. A horse sacrificed for a nothing sport.
With my snooping around, the Queen needs knee surgery and her racing career is finished. Irad pulled her up quickly.
The TV commentary didn’t even mention The Queen’s MG breakdown. She was totally ignored. Not worth mentioning when she was out of the race.
HB 105 WILL PASS! Yay!!!!!
I like those large signs with large lettering that are easy to read from a distance. The last I read about Florida horseracing is that it will be propped up until 2030. I don’t know how accurate that is but we’ll see. These “brilliant” so-called horsemen will just have to figure it out for themselves. People who abuse their horses to literal death should be subject to jail time.
Without dark money to keep the Florida racetracks open after 2030, they will shutdown.
It’s an injustice to horses that this abuse is allowed at all, let alone be propped up with government subsidies.
Thanks to all who showed up and stood up with signs in protest of this heinous abuse of horses for racing and Pari-mutuel gambling!
