The 4th at Mahoning yesterday, in the cold, terse telling of the chartwriter: “Over the Hills fell nearing the half pole when suffering a catastrophic injury and was euthanized.” The video, of course, has been wiped from Mahoning’s website. Over the Hills was seven, and this was his 43rd time under the whip. The responsible: Paul Buttigieg, Joseph Pizzurro, Luciano Hernandez, and all who support – betting, attending, watching – this vile industry.
Also: The CHRB says that Valtari died at Santa Anita Tuesday. He was 14, and at the time of his death was being used as a track “pony.” A miserable life, an early death. Poor boy.
Instead of denying Joe/Joseph Pizzurro access and entry to Mahoning racetrack, because he is most likely, in my opinion, injecting painkillers and performance enhancing drugs into the horses he owns and trains which included OVER THE HILLS, the track management sees fit to delete the video of the horror.
The track is welcoming the everyday cruelty and the carnage. It’s morally depraved.

It isn’t normal for a horse to die at the age of fourteen years old. What did they do to VALTARI to cause him to die at such a young age — not a baby, but still young for a horse that has the potential of living to 30+ years with proper care.
Did he die of colic? I don’t expect the California Horse Racing Board to disclose the details because it is never pretty with all of the horse-killing activity going on in California.
The announcer said that Over the Hills had broken down, and you could hear a crowd in the background say “Ohhhhhhhh!!!” Like it was a football touchdown or a nascar wreck, not that a horse fell horribly. The way this poor horse went down…I wouldn’t be surprised if he broke more than 2 legs or his back.
Joe Pizzurro had the first fatal breakdown ever, when Mahoning was newly opened, and he continues his killing ways!
