Am I right to assume this jockey wasn’t fined for beating the horse named GIRL OF MY DREAMS, but rather for losing his whip???
In this industry, if the jockey let up on the horse especially near the finish, that would be grounds for some type of so-called disciplinary measure by the stewards. So after losing his whip, he resorted to using whatever he could get his hands on which happened to be his goggles.
There is an article about a trainer in Queensland, Australia who beat a horse “in training” with a poly pipe and also hit the horse in the jaw with his fist.
So much for horsemanship when you don’t have to be an actual horseman to be a “trainer” or a “jockey”. Just beat on the horse… This is obviously why activists have valid grounds to protest the mistreatment of horses.
Or, why hit her at all?? She was in the lead and no one else was going to catch her. These heavy handed, hitting-happy jockeys drive me nuts. I still have yet to figure out why they beat the hell out of a horse that’s lengths behind everyone else with no hope of catching up, but yet it happens in every race at every track. Just proves how abusive a group of people jockeys are.
