There are rescues posted on Facebook right now that need donations to provide for the care of horses including some Thoroughbreds that they have saved from the slaughter pipeline.
There is also a Thoroughbred mare with proud flesh on her left hind cannon bone and something strange-looking on her chest available at a kill lot. She is a dark bay and probably over 15 years old. She’s for sale at $695. They say she has no tattoo and no microchip. The ground is muddy where she is so she has mud on her hooves and mud on her legs including on the proud flesh. It looks horrible but it is a kill lot! A small group of people show pictures and sometimes videos of the horses on Facebook to try to get them homes. They have to show that the horses can be ridden to give them a better chance of someone rescuing them from the mud and the kill lot, especially the death sentence of being shipped to Mexico or Canada.
This particular mare doesn’t look like she should be saddled or ridden because she looks kind of pathetic.
Even though it looks inappropriate and cruel to put a saddle and rider on her, they have to show that the horse can be ridden even when the horse is not in a riding condition. She’s gentle enough and she’s probably been ridden in her time but it’s just sad!

When the famous stud farms of Europe are being sold you know that Deauville and other world famous plants will be shuttered somewhere down in the future. My fervent hope is that those who profess to love horses will start making contacts for the rescue of unwanted thoroughbreds, standardbreds and quarter horses. Horses of all ages will be in peril…plans for rehoming race horses must be addressed immediately by all rescue and humane groups, and they must respond to the upcoming crisis by working with diligence, speed, and unrelenting commitment to ensure that no horse gets shipped to slaughter or dies a lonely death in some isolated places where the likelihood of being found is nil.
Forcing underdeveloped, immature fillies and colts and/or castrated colts to carry over 110 pounds of whip-wielding rider on their backs with cruel bits, tongue ties and nosebands to control them and force them to gallop fast is an abomination.
These people who call themselves “horsemen” in the horse racing industry are greedy, money grubbing heathens who should be in jail for Animal Cruelty.
At two years old, a colt or a filly of any breed is only ONE-THIRD of the way to being mature and fully developed.
It takes an extremely depraved individual to exploit horses for racing and Pari-mutuel gambling. It takes an extremely depraved individual to deliberately violate the rules of common decency and sense by playing Russian Roulette with the lives of innocent young sentient beings.
