The Finger Lakes chartwriter is notorious for not reporting bad outcomes. Case in point, the 6th race yesterday. Big Bad Bud, he/she said, was “done early and tired.” The 7-year-old, under the whip for the 66th time, finished last, 84 lengths back. Turns out, says the Gaming Commission, “horse collapsed and died on the track.”
Because Finger Lakes is being wholly propped up by casino revenue – which ultimately comes out of the pockets of taxpayers – and because of that is able to pay first-last, Big Bad’s complicit-in-the-kill exploiters – owner/trainer Eduardo Maver, jockey Jose Rohena – shared $243 simply by dint of him crossing the wire (albeit 84 lengths back). Wonder what the Commission’s “investigation” will return this time. I loathe these people.

Big Bad Bud was exposed to a Class D Felony in that Bud was subjected to intentional torture. Torture by law is defined as any act that is intentional infliction of pain or subjection to extreme physical pain or injury motivated by design to increase, cause, or prolong pain and suffering….Class D Felony also incorporates the charge of “resulting in death”. Somebody in the state of New York needs to press charges….Bud deserves national attention and justice!
Big Bad Bud was dying at 84 lengths behind the front runners and the racing industry is not ashamed and anguished in their conscience and heart that this poor horse was not pulled up???????????
Bud was beaten roughly by about 2 municipal streets. To make a horse continue to run when he is so badly outdistanced is an abomination and condemns every racetracker that carries a license whether it is as a steward or a hotwalker — Bud’s final race proves how ruthless, disgraceful, vicious, and egregious the industry has become. Moreover, there is something contemptible about any state that would permit such brutality to be imposed on a horse without receiving full condemnation from all national media outlets and every church in America.
If the horse racing (aka killing) industry ‘loves’ their horses so much, why do they also love them dying?
People who support this sport are sick.
Off-camera but still in public view, while Big Bad Bud was being walked back, he went from walking calmly to struggling against the handler and suddenly went down. He kinda sat up for a few seconds and then laid down. His feet, tail, and head moved slightly, the vet checked, and the blind went up so those at the grandstand could not see; everyone has a camera in their hands because of cell phones. The ‘Death Wagon’ came out and Big Bad Bud was dragged into the trailer. And as Finger Lakes does with horses that die on the track, he was driven to an area backside and pulled off the wagon to lay out in the open, no matter the weather conditions.
Replay…the horse started the race ok but quickly lost ground. He was massively struggling. So instead of stopping the poor horse, the rider kept on going. You gotta get over that finish line, don’t you?
This is not meant as a political statement in any way, but to help end horse racing, especially at the tax payer subsidized tracks, start checking for immigration status of every single individual involved in this filthy enterprise. No people to exploit equals no horses to exploit.
This race track would go out of business if it weren’t for the subsidies. They will accept horses that are not fit to be raced to fill the race card because it’s in the financial interest of these morally depraved people. They’ll pay the track veterinarian to pass horses to “race” that shouldn’t be raced in order to fill the race card.
What investigation done by these morally depraved people would amount to anything else other than passing the buck if pressed for an answer??? They could blame the horse because that’s what thes animal abusers are “capable” of doing rather than stopping the abuse and getting a job that requires honest work.
I will say it again…Finger Lakes is filled with people who don’t know where their next Big Mac is coming from. They live off the backs of any poor horse they can get their hands on and run into the ground. It’s an understatement to say that it’s a den of thieves that needs to be shut down.
Since it’s a case of the “foxes guarding the chicken house” in these alleged investigations which means all parties involved are guilty, the cause of the death of the horse will remain a mystery. It’s always a so-called mystery when the people responsible for the morally depraved killing of a horse used and abused as a gambling chip/object are at fault.
