I received an email Sunday saying that Cry Me a Runner’s breakdown at Fresno earlier in the day was particularly horrific – a dangling hoof. Yesterday, the CHRB confirmed her death. She was five, and this was her 27th time under the whip.
The CHRB also says 6-year-old Tulane Tryst died at Fresno Friday – no details, of course. These are kills 9 and 10 for this year’s California Fair Season. Says Larry Swartzlander, executive director of the California Authority of Racing Fairs: “It is unfortunate and sad any time you lose an equine athlete.” Vile.
And the Central Valley right now is running at least 10 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year; it was a high of 94 in Fresno where this poor girl was murdered. She died being pushed beyond her limits and in high heat as well.
A dangling hoof? OMG….That poor, poor, horse. How horrific.
It’s unfortunate and sad that greedy people see fit to brutally exploit horses for their financial gain and sick thrills.
It’s unfortunate and sad that greedy psychopathic types of people glorify the racing of horses as a sport.
It’s unfortunate and sad that so many people can only prioritize the millions of dollars they can gain from horses forced to run for racing to win purse money and for gambling on to win bets.
