Aug 10:
“Foreseen returned lame; placed on See Vet [SV] List.”
“Birthday Girl returned lame and required the horse ambulance; placed on SV List.”
Aug 12:
“Bourbon Flight returned lame and required the horse ambulance; placed on SV List.”
“The claim [sale] of American Raider was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”
Aug 17:
“The claim of Tornado Road was voided when horse was placed on Vet’s List.”
“Tartufo returned lame and required the horse ambulance; placed on SV List.”
Aug 18:
“Yammy Yammy Bella finished 8th and suffered a post-race heatstroke and required the horse ambulance; placed on SV List.”
A couple of notes: The official race charts said nothing of the ambulance rides for Bourbon Flight, Tartufo, and Yammy, nor the lameness of Foreseen. Birthday and Bourbon are (were?) two years old and were both under the whip for the very first time.
Then these from the weekly harness rulings, both at Harrington Raceway Aug 28:
“Driver Hugh O’Neil is fined $300 for causing welts on Deluego.”
“Driver Allan Davis is fined $300 for causing welts on Jk Standingovation.”
Punishments fit the crimes?
How many people actually enjoy watching someone whip horses???
It would take a hard-hitting, overhanded motion of the whip to leave WELTS on a horse. Is this using an overhanded motion of the whip okay with the stewards in Delaware and at Harrington Raceway?
