Our Midwest Coordinator, Sandy Jey, tabled at the Bluegrass VegFest in Louisville last Saturday. Here is Sandy’s Facebook writeup on the day. Thank you, Sandy (and team)!
The Horseracing Wrongs table at Louisville Kentucky’s Bluegrass VegFest 2024 was a HUGE SUCCESS and a head turner indeed!!
It was heartening to see how many Kentuckians think it is ABSURD to exploit horses under the guise of tradition in 2024. This tradition belongs in the
.
Horseracing is a highly subsidized & heartless industry that guzzles millions of taxpayer dollars
Horses end up with gory injuries and thousands die each year on the racetracks, not including those retired racehorses that end up in the horse meat slaughter pipeline ![]()
![]()
Thank you Kearney Robinson and Shane Phoenix for being a great team and voice for the horses! ![]()
We filled out nearly 5 sign-up sheets with people across Kentucky and other states, who wanted to be a part of the solution – to END horseracing.
No racing reforms.
No track improvements.
Our goal is simple – to BAN horseracing. ![]()

Thank you Nicole Arciello and Patrick Battuello for such an amazing, abolitionist organization that is highly organized, victim-focused and doesn’t muddle the message and mission, unlike other welfarist organizations. This is the beginning of the end of horseracing and HW is at the forefront of this movement ![]()

Well said, Rose. It’s horrifying to think about the daily torture that hundreds of thousands of animals have to endure on a daily basis and how the mistreatment and killing of so many animals is considered normal.
❤️ Love this comment.
People own horses and other animals for many different reasons. Very few own them for the sake of the animal.
Thank you wonderful fabulous people 🙏
Well done, Sandy, Patrick, Nicole, and all involved! Volunteers “on the ground” talking to people face to face is the heart and soul of grassroots movements.
Guzzling millions of taxpayer dollars and heartlessly injuring thousands of horses is certainly what horseracing has been doing and continues to do.
One of the things about injured racehorses is that some horses have injuries that aren’t readily seen by a lot of people. You’d have to have X-ray vision to see that certain horses have injuries because their injuries are not so obvious, at least to some people.
A woman posted in a Facebook group that she’s looking for a horse for her daughter for barrel racing. She said they bought a horse and got scammed because the horse was an ex-racehorse with injuries. (How could they not know the horses had injuries? I believe it is because there are a lot of injuries that require an X-RAY MACHINE and a veterinarian to examine and diagnose certain types of injuries that are not easily seen otherwise.) She said it’s costing them a lot of money to treat the horse but she didn’t say what the injuries are. Some people commented to always get a PPE (pre-purchase exam). Hopefully, she will keep the horse and not sell to someone who will exploit the horse for whatever money they can get. I’m surprised this particular horse wasn’t shipped to Mexico or Canada, but it could still happen. It depends on priorities; if they would rather spend money on a horse that can run barrels, they might let the injured horse go to the less scrupulous people who find “no guilt” in exploiting horses for their meat.
If people really cared about their horses, they would not purposely cause harm, injuries and eventually death to their horses for any reason. If the truth were known, I think the majority of people who have horses should not be allowed to have horses.
Thank you Sandy and HW for your extraordinary service to horse welfare. The founding of HW was something I couldn’t envision 30 years ago when I rescued my Thoroughbred from the track
. Your campaigns are making an impact and inspiring others to take action. Your compassion and unwavering commitment to horse welfare are a shining example of positive change people can make in the lives of horses.
