Another horse has been killed at Cal Expo. Friday, Moonlit Night went down in the 9th race. The CHRB says only, “non-musculoskeletal,” which almost invariably means a collapsed/sudden death. Now consider that Moonlit was but three years old. A week prior, you surely remember, this befell Dardick Vic at that same track.
Meanwhile, the NYS Gaming Commission says that Feeling “suffered a cardiac event following training” at Finger Lakes Thursday and is dead. He had just turned four. But fret not, for the Commission assures that “the investigation continues.”
Unfortunately, Teresa, the veterinarians in this despicable industry do what they are told to do by the ones who hire them.
If they are hired by the racetrack owners, they pass horses to race even when the horse should not be passed to race.
Once in awhile, a veterinarian scratches a horse from the starting lineup. I believe this would more likely be a regulatory vet than a track vet.
The veterinarians hired by the trainers are paid to do what the trainers tell them to do, so here we go again. This is all a recipe for injuries to the horses and fatal breakdowns. This industry is full of people who are morally depraved.

Over and over again, young horses just collapsing and dying “sudden deaths” or suffering cardiac arrest. Very rare outside of racing. Again, I don’t expect owners and trainers to care, but wouldn’t you think that people who go into veterinary medicine might want to see this end? How can they prop up this legal animal abuse?
Yes, Wanda, I engaged in a very naive conversation last year with a member of the Pennsylvania racing commission about a 10+ years old horse about to be forced to race yet again. I thought they’d care. Nope. Excuses and feigned helplessness. There is no real oversight.
The state racing commissions/ commissioners should be investigated by an entity outside of horse racing that DOES NOT have any members with their money invested in this industry, this gambling racket that callously uses and abuses horses as gambling chips/ objects, at any level and, therefore, no conflict of interest.
Go HORSERACING WRONGS for bringing this heinous abuse and dastardly killing of horses to the attention of a broader community in the hopes that the majority of taxpaying citizens would protest this hideous cruelty to horses and its inherent waste of government subsidies of any and all kinds and types.
If working for a living is the goal of anyone in this industry, there are other options. Corporate Welfare to this industry of morally depraved exploitation of horses needs to be terminated. Animal abusers need to be treated as the criminals they are, and not given a free pass to continue their heinous abuse of horses.
