Through a FOIA request to the Oklahoma Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Fair Meadows and Remington last year. This is the last in a series (previous ones here).
Super Sizer, Jul 13, Fair Meadows R
“The radial and intermediate facets of the right third carpal bone are completely fractured off the body of the bone.” Also: “chronic ulcers.” Super Sizer was three years old.
Heavenly, Oct 26, Remington T
“Acute blunt-force trauma: multiple complete, comminuted skull fractures [which] severely crushed and ruptured approximately 80% of the brainstem.” Also: “chronic stomach ulceration, which is likely related to stress.” Heavenly was three years old and being prepped for her first race.
Vino Bianco, Oct 27, Remington R
“Acute, comminuted fracture; abundance of hemorrhage.” Also: “chronic stomach ulceration, likely related to stress.” Vino was two years old.
Feeling Happy, Nov 14, Remington S
“Severe necrotizing pleuropneumonia, sepsis.” Feeling Happy was four years old and had last been raced Oct 25.
Boom Baby Flats, Nov 20, Remington S
“Severe necrohemorrhagic colitis, acute pleural hemorrhage, acute ventricular hemorrhage.” Boom was two years old and had last been raced 10 days prior.
Town Hall, Nov 21, Remington T
“[Multiple] severe, complete fractures with partial suspensory rupture.” Also: “There is evidence of early DJD [degenerative joint disease] in both front fetlocks.” “Early degenerative joint disease.” How early? Town Hall was two years old.
Pascala, Dec 1, Remington R
“[Multiple] fractures, partial rupture, severe hemorrhage.” Pascala was three years old.
My first thought was that some horse-killing thug took a sledge hammer to this young and underdeveloped filly causing skull fractures and crushing her brain stem. The cruelty of horse racing is criminal. Jail time would be too good for these morally depraved people. They deserve much worse.
If you can not take proper care of your animals or children don’t have them. Can you not afford a dewormer then do without your Saturday night beer fest.
WTF happened to Heavenly???!!!! Skull fractures that crushed 80% of her brain stem?! It sounds like she was laying on the ground and had her head run over with a heavy piece of machinery! C’mon, apologists, jump on in and defend THIS!
