I’ve written on Tyler’s Tribe thrice previously. Here’s the most recent, posted last May:
Tyler’s Tribe has, over the course of his young “career,” been very successful. In fact, he “won” his first five races. In the sixth, which happened to be a $1M BC race last Nov 4 [2022], TT, at the time just two, was “vanned off” after suffering epistaxis – he bled from his nostrils and, originally, from his lungs. At the time, his owner/trainer, Tim Martin, admitted the bleeding was a 5 on a 1-5 scale. “It was bad,” he said.
In TT’s very next race, Dec 9 [2022] at Oaklawn, this, according to Martin, happened: “He was looking pretty good, and [when] he stopped, I was like, ‘Uh oh, something happened.’ When she pulled him up, he had blood in his nose.” Yep, bled again. And still only two.
Apparently sensing that this wasn’t a good look, Martin held TT back over the winter. He returned on Mar 30 [2023], again at Oaklawn, and while there was no report of him bleeding, he finished second-to-last, 16 lengths back. Then, Saturday [Apr 29, 2023]. In a $150K race, the now 3-year-old was a “DNF – returned bleeding.” What more can I add?
Well. I have more to add. After that Apr ’23 race, Tyler’s disappeared. But again, he’s a mega-valuable asset, with, at the time, over $324K “earned” in only 9 races. So, yesterday, his doting owner/trainer (Martin still) brought him back. And what do you suppose happened? The full chart note: “Tyler’s Tribe took command after the start, showed the way up the backstretch and into the turn in the two path, headed exiting the bend, gave way, returned bleeding.” “Returned bleeding.” That would be pulmonary hemorrhage – for the fourth time. That poor, poor boy. This vile, vile business.

With such severe bleeding this young horse has damaged lungs by now and every bleed means more damage. His performance is obviously already badly compromised.
I fear for this horse’s future.
They could retire him from racing if they really wanted to. The fact that Tim Martin and Tom Lepic have a license from the State Racing Commissions to commit Animal Cruelty AND get financial compensation for their sick crimes translates to “they are going to go as far as they are allowed to go” and that means killing him by running him to death.
#HorseracingIsAnimalCruelty
Hopefully these sickos finally retire this poor horse. Just goes to show the desperation of most low level people in racing.
There is a 50% to 98% chance that the owner/trainer, who obviously doesn’t have basic scruples, will run this horse until he kills him. As long as this vile owner/trainer doesn’t get caught beating the horse over the head with a whip or blunt object on video for the public to see it and as long as he doesn’t shoot the horses veins full of cocaine or methamphetamines that would be obvious in a drug test, I don’t expect anyone from the State Racing Commissions, the State Horse Racing Regulators or the Horse Racing Safety and Integrity Authority to honestly protect this horse from being abused to death by way of the daily routine cruelty of this crooked and morally depraved gambling racket.
Sickening. And where is (the ridiculously-titled) Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority through all this straight-up ABUSE of Tyler’s Tribe? Oh, just where they’ve been for the last couple years or so — marketing this tanking industry of horse-killing monsters to a horrified public.
Keep it up, HISA. One of these days, you’re just bound to (accidentally) save a single Thoroughbred’s life:(
