Arapahoe: “Died Spontaneously”; “Multiple Skull Fractures”; “Fractured Spine” – and Others

Through a FOIA request to the Colorado Dept. of Revenue, I have confirmed the following kills at Arapahoe Park in 2023.

Donna’s Mischief, May 14, Arapahoe T
“Traumatic event, died spontaneously: [multiple: 13] rib fractures; hemorrhage in ribs, pelvis, lung, heart.” Donna’s Mischief was three yeas old.

Hatties Jewel, Jun 18, Arapahoe T
“Animal went down, traumatic injury to the head: multiple severe, comminuted skull fractures.” Hatties was ten and had been raced 88 times, most recently May 6.

Fort Knox, Jul 9, Arapahoe R
“Fell, traumatic injury to the left forelimb: complete, displaced, severely comminuted cannon fracture.” Also: “multifocal, chronic gastric ulcerations.” Fort was six years old.

Willie the Man, Jul 15, Arapahoe R
“Fell: complete, comminuted fracture of the neck of the scapula; regionally extensive subcutaneous and intramuscular hemorrhage.” Willie was four years old.

Goose, Jul 24, Arapahoe T
“Flipped at speed near finish, euthanized on track.” Goose was four and coming off a two-year layoff.

Dg Rarest Glory, Aug 7, Arapahoe R
“Flipped, fell, trapped under gate, struggled for extended period: multiple skull fractures.” Dg was three years old.

Bully Girl, Sep 9, Arapahoe R
“Acute injury post-start: fractured spine.” Bully Girl was four years old.

  2. Thirteen rib fractures?! Are they sky-diving these horses now? And that poor horse trapped under the gate for an extended period of time – how long did the people around him let him struggle, terrified and inflicting injuries on himself in his desperation to get free? Oh, and these horses flipping and breaking spines and heads are obviously athletes enjoying their jobs.
    I want to hear any racing apologist defend ANY one of these atrocities.

  4. Horrifying and traumatic events and injuries to horses for “revenue” in Colorado; this is horse racing. These horses were “bred to be killed” in traumatic events.
    How can anyone with a conscience support this treachery against sentient beings?!?!?
