Six Dead Racehorses in Maine

Through a FOIA request to the Dept. of Agriculture, I was able to confirm the following deaths in Maine last year. (Maine, of course, is a light-racing state, with no flat tracks, one harness track, and a handful of county fairs.)

Electrify, Apr 28, Cumberland R – “horse died racing – broken leg”

Oh David, Jul 18, Cumberland S – “horse died in barn, unknown reason”

Cheers For Chip, Jul 28, Cumberland R – “accident”

Mrs Tetrick, Sep 2, Windsor T – “blood loss into thorax, likely fatal arrhythmia”

Solar Event, Sep 19, Farmington R – “horse died racing – broken leg”

Crush Me, Dec 10, Cumberland R – “unknown reason, investigation still active”

  1. So far that I know of, that’s the way it always is. Why do they bother to say there is an investigation when it appears that the alleged investigation has no real beginning and no real conclusion…?

  2. Right?? Kind of like poor Diamond Collector, who broke down on the 11th at Aqueduct but the “investigation continues”.
I even messaged NYRA to see how that investigation (haha) is going – crickets.

  3. CRUSH ME died on December 10, 2023 for “allegedly” an unknown reason and “allegedly” the investigation is ongoing up to and including January 27, 2024.
What kind of “alleged” Doctors of Veterinary Medicine make their living in Maine???
This screams incompetence and foul play as well as corruption.

  4. And as usual…there is plenty more horses for those evil money hungry people to use ..abuse..and kill…and with no laws for protection…the abuse continues…what in the hell is wrong with this country?
