Progress: Wagering on Racing Down Last Year

The betting numbers for 2023 are in from Equibase and the news is positive (for us). The total amount wagered on Thoroughbred racing in America fell by almost a half-billion dollars – a 3.7% decline from 2022. Total number of racedays fell 5.5%; total number of races fell 5.1%; and total number of starts fell 3.3%. Progress…

  1. I hope that more people will quit the horseracing racket. The declining numbers participating in horseracing is a good sign. I hope this will continue until horseracing ends for good!

  2. Race trackers are sweating it in SD. They are reminiscing about yesteryear and how wonderful it was…and knowing horse racing is going down hill from here. Keep fighting the good fight!

  3. I won’t be surprised if there are more lobbyists working harder or longer to get more subsidies somehow to keep this killing game afloat.

People like Mike Repole want to have their cake and eat it too. Why would they care if it’s at the expense of the taxpaying public??? They don’t even genuinely care about the well-being of the horses. As an example among many examples, they want to keep their horses locked up 23 hours a day in stalls, because that’s convenient and maybe the least expensive way for these selfish, greedy people to keep their four-legged mealtickets. It would be way too inconvenient and maybe more expensive if they kept their horses out in a decent pasture for at least 13 hours a day and 10 hours in a stall.
There are a lot of people who don’t want to see horseracing go away. Too many people are depending on this gambling venue as a mealticket even though it means abusing and killing horses and getting politicians to support this vile industry at the taxpaying public’s expense.
