    • Agree. And I think that this ability to have first–last payouts is creating a cesspool of suffering for those poor horses at the bottom who now will just be run until they drop–literally!

      • Yes, the incentive to some people to keep their horses at the track and race them for as little as a $250 purse is enough to motivate some people evidently.
        The alternative (slaughterhouses) for many horses is very ugly as well. If only more people in racing could have a sudden attack of guilt for what they are doing to horses and do something decent instead.

  1. Jorge Delgado at it again. Guess killing 3 horses, including New York Thunder, in the last month, hasn’t been enough, now he’s working on killing Brasstown.

    • I think a lot of people would rather just be willfully ignorant of the horrors of horse racing so they don’t have any culpability. It’s also rather disgusting that the abuse and torture on the track is even accepted by much of the equine community in general – with the excuse of “ that’s just horse racing”.
