Lots of Injured (Dead?) Yesterday, Including Three at Ellis Alone

In addition to a fall (Run the Beach, below) at Horseshoe, there were these yesterday – just one day on American tracks (and yes, that’s three “vanned off” at Ellis Park alone):

Smoocher “fell” at Belterra
Strike That “vanned off” at Del Mar
Run Cecil “vanned off” at Ellis
Boldish “vanned off” at Ellis
Hasini “vanned off” at Ellis
Queen Sheba “returned bleeding from both nostrils” at Laurel
Gaelic Warrior “vanned off” at Louisiana
Dreaming of Toga “vanned off” (confirmed killed) at Monmouth
Who’s On the Run “vanned off” at Ruidoso

  1. But, but, but, HISA is making racing safer for horses, aren’t they?
Just kidding, of course. Trying to pin down a HISA spokesperson for an answer on even a single thoroughbred injury — much less, hundreds of fatalities — has been just about impossible. (I think they got all their “Integrity” training from those high-transparency Jockey Clubbers;)

  2. RUN THE BEACH, a Quarter Horse filly, born March 21, 2021 was raced on June 3, 2023 and finished last (tenth). She was raced again on July 22, 2023 and falls down but gets back up (DNF). She doesn’t even belong anywhere near a racetrack.
This is cruelty to horses! Without the casino subsidies, this disgusting display of abuse to young and underdeveloped colts and fillies at Horseshoe Indiana racetrack would be stopped.
