A reminder on this, the opening weekend of Saratoga ’23…

Saratoga Race Course proudly bills itself “the oldest sporting venue in the nation” – one of the more blatant manifestations of The Big Lie. What you won’t see in all their slick marketing, however, is the cost – a cost, that is, measured in lives. Follows is a list of the horses killed at Saratoga since 2009. Remember, these are just the ones reported. Not reflected here are those euthanized off-site (for Saratoga-related injuries), nor the hundreds (probably thousands) more who raced at Saratoga and were eventually sent to slaughter once the industry was done with them.
