“Fell, Catastrophic Injury, Euthanized on Track” at Laurel

In the 1st at Laurel yesterday afternoon, Hooky Player “fell near the finish, sustained a catastrophic injury, and was euthanized on the track.” He was three years old; ’twas his ninth time under the whip. Not surprisingly, the cowards at Maryland Racing expunged the entire race (not just the fall) from their official YouTube channel.

This is horseracing.

  1. This is absolute cruelty, brutality and ABUSE of horses. There are no redeeming qualities in this egregious cruelty to horses!!!!! The young, underdeveloped COLTS and FILLIES exploited for racing and wagering are all victims of morally depraved, horse-abusing, horse-doping, horse-killing human beings. Horseracing is horse-killing. Horseracing must be stopped, banned, OUTLAWED completely!!!! The people who are involved in this egregious cruelty to horses must be punished severely.

  2. And, of course, there’s SILENCE from (the comically-titled) HISA and the ever-evasive Jockey Clubbers: “No comment,” they say, on even the PUBLIC carnage. So I very much doubt they’ll be acknowledging any of the less-visible horse deaths. Gotta protect the industry, especially the newly-“safety conscious” Stronachs.

    • They took the replay off fast enough only showing the winner and the second place surviving horses. AND of course the smile faced winners circle. What I understand from an eyewitness, this was horrendous.

      • I’m sure this scene was sickening, stomach-churning, and nightmare-inducing to anyone watching it who’s capable of empathy and rational thinking. (But animal racing doesn’t really appeal to that sort of person, does it?)
